Day 20: Finally there’s a slice of hot toast in sight.
July 29, 2010 | 13 Comments

The only thing I “missed” during my vegan detox “diet” was bread.
I did cheat a lot with my daily tea, the occasional espresso and glass of wine, the dried fruits, a couple of meals out with “forbidden” items.
When we lose twenty pounds… we may be losing the twenty best pounds we have! We may be losing the pounds that contain our genius, our humanity, our love and honesty. ~ Woody Allen
I lost close to five and achieved my target of under 17% body fat. The challenge is to stay there.

5 pounds, Awesome. Good luck with your dieting.
Congratulations, Bee! Well done! Good Luck with everything.
Love to Delta.
Congratulations Bee! Well done!
To reach BF of under 20%, I would need surgical intervention LOL!
Woah! Awesome guys! I have a question seeing most your days’ menu though – how do you take soups and salads (and smoothies and all the other things) to work? I don’t use the office microwave, so that rules out soup.. For salads, I have to take 3-4 boxes, otherwise the veggies get mushy/watery/spoilt.. plus, I have to cut tomatoes & cucumbers just before I eat (at work
)! How do you keep the smoothies cool and fresh till lunch/snack time? Don’t tell me “mini fridge at work” puhleeease!!

yes, mini-fridge at work. don’t add salt to your salads until you’re eating them. they won’t turn mushy. get a mandoline to slice the veggies to the appropriate thickness. don’t add tomatoes to salads. they make everything wet.
the blender bottle is perfect for taking smoothies or protein shakes to work.
And, yes, your recommendation for the blender bottle wins hands down..
(for lumpless protein shake! But I cant add fruit and keep it long yet!)

Hi Jai and Bee,
As an enthusiatic supporter and follower (for most part) of the eat to live diet, I remember reading in the book that Dr.Fuhrman believes in 3 times a day meal with a no-snacking in between rule.
I was wondering what your thought process was for adapting five-meals-a-day? Do yo believe it is more efficient than eating only three times? Or does it keep your from getting hungry? I think eating five times a work will really be easier on me but then I won’t be following the diet. Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!

Understand. Thanks for the link.
But Dr.Fuhrman purports that metabolism slowing is not necessarily a bad thing. It is a thing that keeps the body going even if there is not enough food. Especially for people wanting to experiment with fasting, slowing the metabolism is an art to be perfected.
Anyway, you answered my question about the reason behind your plan.
Great site…Keep up the dedication.
i am basically a grazer, so it works for me. i prefer lots of tiny meals to a couple of big ones. however, not everyone agrees with the “more meals, more metabolism” theory.
it works for me, but it may not be practical or useful to others. and i’m not even sure if it’s true that eating more often is better for you. .
