Life’s about to get dangerous.

One of our neighbours had an estate sale and we dropped in to check out some tools. Couldn’t pass up the brand new Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for $5. Yes, five.
Came home and peeked into our fridge. There’s no place in the freezer to put the churning bowl. So we bought a chest freezer to move all Delta’s stuff out of the fridge. For the first time in years, we can see the back and floor of our freezer.
We love ice cream. Bee is a sucker for gelatos and sorbets. Jai doesn’t care what it’s called as long as it’s frozen and potentially makes you fat. He’s one of those lucky dudes who stays skinny no matter what or how much he eats. He’s legendary among his college mates for polishing off an entire tub (1.5 quarts) of ice cream in one sitting AFTER dinner (which probably was a large pizza plus breadsticks plus goodness knows what else).
We’ve made ice creams and sorbets before without a machine and it wasn’t very complicated.

Ridiculously easy Raspberry Ice Cream

But this makes it such a breeze. A new flavour each week – a fresh quart of ice cream each weekend – would mean about 50 flavours a year. Yes, we’re going to eat ice cream with dinner. Or, maybe, for dinner. Every night. Why not?
One vegetarian who loves cream and eggs, one vegan, and Delta who “prays” with two paws up whenever we open the ice cream carton. This is going to be fun.
We don’t cook much any more, but we’ll try to post one frozen treat a week. ‘Cos life’s too short not to eat ice cream every day.

i envy you and delta:-)
Our Rico (who’s black, just like Delta) likes dairy products, like ice cream. $5 for the machine was a really good deal.
I presented one to my husband’s SIL a couple of years ago and all I heard was it was good. Didn’t know what she tried.
Will check out your place for the posts and will decide whether to own one. My kids unlike their ‘anything cold- hating mommy’ would appreciate some icecreams and sherbets.
When my son saw what your delta was thinking, he couldn’t stop laughing.
uh huh…so, one ice cream maker $5…plus one chest freezer…price unknown
ice cream makes my sinuses hurt, but I could go for sorbets
LOL. We had actually decided to buy the freezer for other reasons. But that is so true, we get something inexpensive and spend many x more for things around it !!

oh, I am sure a chest freezer comes in handy for many things. my mother first bought hers to stock up on the bounty of green mangoes so she could have them all year round.
Lucky fish!! $5???
I’ve never tried making ice cream without said machine, it seemed like a given. I would hold my breath reading a recipe for some exotic ice cream only to be hit by those magical lines at the end “…place churn in freezer and process as per your ice cream makers instructions”.
I iz in love wid tha kitteh =^.^= muah, muah, muah!
Jai sounds someone like my Dad
.
Frozen miaomix (kitteh lingo for anything edible) is also my kinda’ stuff. I make something with over-ripe bananas, dates, honey, a lil’ milk/soy-milk, blend-freeze-top with toasted almonds/walnuts/pistachios and enjoy!
Something frozen in lieu of dinner (and maybe lunch) sounds very attractive right now with the temperature slowly inching up here!
Can see Delta has taken put her stamp everywhere.
Just started making ice cream a month ago. My first recipe is with egg, creams and somehow while cooking the custard I can’t hold the eggy smell. I think I can settle for sorbets. I have bookmarked quiet a few and u’re apricot, strawberry flavors were there in the list. And I love the kitty language you people speak
Great buy!
I look forward to your frozen concoctions!
I wanna lick, lick, the ice cream, sorbets etc…ofcourse!!! Hey delta, no lick lick competition ok:);)
Jai has a separate stomach for icecreams…my husband says that about me, lol!
Woow just for a five, itislike wining a small lottery
I love ice creams too, wlove to have that apricot one.
Hi, lurking for a long time but this post made me comment. Im a sucker for ice creams too but just cant get myself to make all the cholesterol laden stuff. Ill finally get my ice cream maker out from god knows where it is stowed away in my tiny kitchen in the hope that you ll post yummy and relatively healthy frozen treats..
5$ for an ice cream maker…what a steal!
I love Delta, she so deserves her ‘tuna flaver’
What a great find! My dad gave me his a while back and I love it. My favorite is green tea frozen yogurt–it is so easy to make. Enjoy your new toy!
I cracked up reading the catty “blurb”. Life’s best pleasures are always so simple and “sweet”.
Enjoy your summertime treats. Do you make watermelon-flavored sorbet? I have doggie nose, will come sniffing if you do!
Ciao.
in summer we will make it for sure.
Hi love your blog. I don’t know if you take requests, but I was wondering if you have the recipe for lychee icecream. I used to love it as a kid, in India and would love to try it again . Thanks
We love Lychee icecream too. It’s best with fresh lychees which we dont get where we are. But if we do try – we’ll post it.
