“I’m going to stitch it up now”,
the doctor said
as he set aside his scalpel
bright with blood from my right hand.

Where can I source one of those,
I wonder,
to score bread dough?

Bread dough reminds me of a blog
of mine that I haven’t visited
in a while …

On the drive home, the stitches hurt
while changing gears.
Stick shift sucks sometimes.

Not as badly
as the foreign object
that was lodged under my skin
for two months, though.

That felt like the guilt pangs one deals with
for not replying
to yards of e-mails.
Need to excise those next.

While sitting with an ice pack, I tell myself
to post something.
And smile.

‘Cos the doctor said no wet hands for a week.
That means Jai gets to do ALL the
cooking, cleaning, laundry and dishes.

So I log in and dig out some old pics
Of an Impressionist plate -
orange, burgundy, gold and green.

I love those Tassos kalamata olives
in a jar from Costco.
Purple, pitted and salty.

How do they compare with
what Russell Peters buys
in a jar from Costco?
I can’t quite tell.

And try to remember the recipe
in 140 characters - Twitter style
before getting another ice pack.

Orange-Oilve Salsa with Asparagus and Beets

Chop 2cps orngs+3/4cp olvs+2 tbs bsil+2frsh chiles+lil gingr&grlc, toss wth 2tbs lime jc, salt & 1tbs tquila, mix&srv on stmed asprgs&beet.

So friends, do you tweet? And why? I’m not being facetious. How does Twitter add value to your life?

Genuinely curious,

bee

well compared to many I know, I am just horrible at tweeting..I just tweet to do food talk! That’s about it!

Hope your hand gets better Bee. Missing you :)

  2. A&N says:

I love the colours on the plate :)

I do hope your hand is all healed right now. I do use Twitter and do enjoy it, though I’m not compulsive-obsessive like some others. I enjoy it because I have a ton of food bloggers on that who post links ( Sometimes, for my fave sites, I don’t open the Reader, I just look at the tweet) or, share small tips that I could do with. I’ve made friends who’ve helped me in times of trouble (serious, to silly ones) So, I like using Twitter.

Are you planning to be on Twitter? It sure can get addictive.

  3. Anjali says:

What happened to your hand dear Bee? Do take good care and give it rest. Hugs.

  4. Mamatha says:

I hope you’re feeling better now Bee. I joined Twitter about a year ago when I got an invite from a friend but I can’t, for the life of me, figure it out. I follow some folks and it’s good to see their updates but other than that do little else. Beautiful pics as always.

  5. Manasi says:

Ayy,,yyaaay…ayyy! what happened to ur hand??
    Take care.
Soham (the baby) sends u a muuaah! to get well soon.
I have heard a lot about twitter, but honestly have no idea, maybe I should look at it, seems highly popular.

  6. nags says:

i have an account but i hardly use it except to update the new stuff on the blog. its quite useless to me and i thinks hyped a lot.

but then i also think 101cookbooks is hyped too so maybe its just me ;)

  7. Manisha says:

Yikes, Bee, what was in that hand of yours? If it’s easier to push 10 buttons instead of 100 keys, I’m all ears.

Twitter is just another tool. It can be utterly useless and a total time sink. It can also be very valuable. It all depends on your goals and how you make it work for you, given the premise that you need it in the first place. And you must absolutely filter out the noise, of which there is an overload.

BTW, recipes in 140 characters don’t work.

  8. Happy Cook says:

I only started tweeting after doing once Macaroons two months back and now i go now and then when i have time.
I also add my new post to it,

  9. notyet100 says:

tweeting is fun specially i when i need to share something in few words,…tk cre,…

  10. shammi says:

I dont, because it doesnt. (I tried Twitter so this is the Voice of Experience talking) :)

And Bee, what on earth did you do to your hand? Hope you heal soon!

  11. Kay says:

Bee, Hope your hands heal soon.

I don’t twitter because it is yet another time sink.

  12. Soma says:

Dear Bee.. what happened to your hand? Get that hand good soon, for I miss your posts and that + + + kinda recipe won’t work (tho’ this is a cool one esp.w/ the tquila).

I have an account but haven’t figured out much beyond deleting and editing 10 times to get the tweet w/in 140. Takes too much time. I send over a line once a week or so. may be when i learn i will like it?

  13. TexasDeb says:

I have an account, I check it about every month or so, but mostly forget and/or ignore it.

It appears many use it like a shorthand email on the go on their phones or other devices. I am more home based so the appeal pales a great deal.

Same thing with facebook really. It has its charms for sharing photos and was interesting recently during a national meeting of a group I am part of for the ability to send news out immediately via updates.

Adding my best wishes for your beleaguered hand. Out with you, foreign object! and leave our Bee alone to heal.

  14. Jen Yu says:

So happy to see you here in action! So sorry about your hand (hope you are better, sweetheart). I hated Twitter for a long long time. Then I got on Twitter. I still hate it for the stream of mindless drivel (to which I contribute at times). That said, it has resulted in a couple of unexpected benefits: 1) friends - new and old 2) community. I tweet with my friends and I have made a few new friends on twitter (not many, I’m picky). Community is the big one. I have been slow to connect with my local community in Boulder, but once on Twitter I was catapulted into the Boulder Twitter community which eventually translated into getting to know these people in real life.

Oh, one last thing. With a large following, it’s been great on travel when I tweet: “What’s good to eat in Town X?” Always get an answer :) Will you be joining Twitter? Looking forward to seeing you!! xoxo

  15. Nirmala says:

Oh Bee, what happened ? I was checking the Basil flowers post a hundred times :( U have to write about your hand (thats too rude). But please take care and enjoy the days off from all the watery-chores! The sals looks delightful!

  16. indosungod says:

I tweet too! but don’t know why.
Oh and do take care of that hand and I am curious to what was lodged in there for 2 months.

I love my stick shift too(fact that is $1000 cheaper than the auto cousin), but it is a pain in stop and go traffic and does not lend itself easily to multitasking. And yes hurts when your hand is in stitches.

  17. Rashmi says:

Nice to see your post,Bee.Hope you get well soon.I donnt tweet.i do use other social sites.Does tweeting add something to once life? I donnt know!!!not for me,i guess. But it does give one to reconnect with lot of people from school or with whom you have lost in touch..i still feel email are the best ….

  18. Mona says:

Bee, I pray and hope that your hand heals soon!
I dont tweet, not yet, maybe coz it hasnt excited me yet.

  19. musical says:

Hey Bee, hope it heals soon! I am not on twitter, yet, but keep toying with the idea :).

    Once more, feel better soon!

  20. Cham says:

I wish u get well soon Bee, I miss ur post :( Social networking is spreading like wild fire! I do have acount in twitter but never used it and hope not in near future too. Another way to waste our precious time!

  21. Love the colors on your blog! Hope your hand gets better soon.

  22. TheCooker says:

    What happened to your hand?

No tweets but I waste time on FB.

  23. Lakshmi says:

hope you feel better soon girl.
Twitter…for me it is..oh not another one please!
I joined orkut and facebook..just to be in touch with old friends..but after some time, its too much maintenance. lot of time waste! once a week for 30 mins..thats all I check.

  24. Bharti says:

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I don’t tweet. I agree with Manisha that it can be a total time sink or very useful depending on what your goal is. When I think of it I feel like a whole lot of people are talking at the same time and it just makes my head hurt. Do I really need to know what so many people are doing out there everyday? So far, no. Like the cooker, I waste my time on fb as well. Then again, I use it to keep in touch with my loved ones, so some of it is warranted.

  25. shoba says:

Gee!! It took me this long just to enter facebook, and people are already on to tweeting…. What next??!! I don’t like to follow others and can never say something within 140 characters.. Why don’t we leave the tweeting to the birds?
My wishes for you to get well soon …Take Care.

  26. Mala says:

    Hey Bee,

Hope your hand gets better soon…. I dont Tweet but am on FB..

Take care and feel better soon..

    Mala

  27. BongMom says:

What were you cooking that your hand had to suffer so ?

    I don’t tweet, facebook, orkut, myspace…what else

  28. I have two accounts but I hardly tweet :) I doesn’t add any value to what I do… Between the pictures look gorgeous…

  29. Johanna says:

Hope your hand is feeling better! I don’t tweet because I am not pithy nor do I understand technology and I refuse to have another addiction but I blog because I love interesting recipes and the beautiful photos that accompany them - just like this one

  30. Alka says:

Oh oh..so your hand was the reason of your absence from blogosphere…hope its getting better. But can u see a silver lining? Jai does all the laundries, cooking, dishes etc etc..no?
Picture as usual is lovely, though never ever, I had tasted the flavors of orange and olive together..I am very bad in mix-n-match-ing of fruits and veggies in one dish :-)
Regarding Twitter, I am not very fond of it(I hardly tweet),and facebook is already too much for me too handle

  31. jaya says:

    Dear Bee,
get well soon …and with fresh stitch ,you were driving .am I right ,well how could you it must have been so painful….anyways sending you warm wishes and big hug …
I dont tweet, orkut or facebook ..whatever you can say …I feel it’s another way to kill your time…I mean I have a food blog that keeps me busy and then I prefer e-mails to any other way of socialising…and there is reader for updates of my fav food blogs which I love to check ..BTW I heard Shashi Tharoor do use tweeter very often and Mallika Sherawat also ;)…
    hugs and smiles

  32. Bhagyashri says:

I knew it. There had to be a reason there was no new post for a long time here. Hope your hand heals soon.

I do have a Twitter account & come to think of it, I really dont know why I created one! I check it occasionally, when I get a notification that someone has started following me, to be precise :) And then for their (follower’s) sake I post something. On my way to check it now!

  33. Cynthe Brush says:

Oh! Bee ~ You’ve been on my mind SO often, especially lately. Should have known something was going on. And called.

Hope your hand surgery heals quickly. If you’re open to using therapeutic essential oils, they can speed the healing process significantly. Bri & I created an awesome blend ‘Revive’ that helped her and has helped other folks as well.

Double love this post!!! The poetic prose format, the truly hysterical tweet style recipe. It does ‘work’ IMO, but isn’t nearly as satisfying as a JB post. Food is all about being satifying….no?

Twitter: Bill’s an expert. Tweets daily. Uses it for research and tipping others to excellent info. Has written a few enlightening posts on the Grey Visual blog: http://www.GreyVisual.com/news

Me: I neglect my various Twitter accounts. Not on purpose, but because I like a REAL conversation, not chatter. But like Jen says, you can find great friends via Twitter. And as Manisha comments, Twitter has it’s usefulness. Plus I enjoy the challenge of writing a valuable post in so few words. Good exercise for those of us honing our writing skills.

Hi! & squeezes to house-hubby Jai.

  34. Sunita says:

Sorry about your hand, dear bee. It’s been ages since I’ve been here- got lots to catch up. Love the look of your salsa :-) In fact, the whole plate looks so elegant.

Yes, I’m on twitter. had an account for ages, been active recently. I guess it all depends on how you use it. And yes, as Jen mentioned, it has its usefulness :-)

  35. deepti says:

well i use twitter just for getting informed. There are some interesting folks to follow..there is a noise but just attended Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference and yes..they are providing twitter like service and actual twitter and Facebook feeds to enterprise and this service is called chatter.
There were really cool real time demos about how companies are using twitter and Facebook for their target audience and how market dynamics and consumer behavior is changing.

    enjoyed your post..get well soon!

  36. purplesque says:

Ooh..I haven’t dropped by in a while, and look at all the fab posts you put up!

I tweet, yes. Why? Instant gratification.

    Hoping your hand heals well.

HAVE YOUR SAY.
