How beautiful! Is this the flower from just regular basil that we use in cooking? I always pinch them off - would have never thought they could look so ethereal. Lovely picture!
Fantastic click Bee! U need to write about the lighting of this pic in the photography forum. Love this kind of dark background but well lit object photos. Plase do write about it.
Another example of your thoughtful composing…the movement of the ruffled bloom pods against the smooth vase, the stunning greens and white against the black, and those two delicate white blossoms in the upper right just glowing with their own light. Really stunning.
While gardeners and cooks who garden are advised to pinch the blooms off their basil plants, I always let at least a few stalks go to blooms. The bees and butterflies love them and as you have aptly demonstrated with your wonderful photo - they are beautiful as well.
Their taste is pretty potent but I’ve sprinkled the blooms into salad occasionally and one restaurant here serves basil ice cream with a couple of blooms as a garnish. Amazing flavors…

I must have a very different kind of basil…the leaves and flowers look very different. I have just about got it going and its thriving, but being new to this, dont know the exact genus. Has bigger paler leaves….just posted a gnocchi in pumpkin and basil sauce and was amazing to taste the flavour of fresh basil - not going back to store bought!!

What a beautiful photograph! I grew some basil this summer, and right before I had plans of plucking the pretty green leaves, Omaha got some unexpected snow … my poor basil didn’t get a chance to blossom in food.
