STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE
In the U.S., tomorrow (May 9), is the nationwide Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive organised by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
People across the country are encouraged to leave food donations by their mailboxes. Your local letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations from homes as they deliver mail along their postal routes.
Nationwide, there are 35 million people constantly grappling with hunger. Last year, this drive collected 73 million pounds of food in one single day.
Things to remember:
1. Canned goods should be at least two years within the expiry date.
2. Get low-sodium versions of soup, beans, etc if possible.
3. Get whole grain cereals.
4. Avoid items with hydrogenated vegetable oils (transfats), high fructose corn syrup or food colouring.
Our list:
Whole-grain rolled oats
Whole-grain pancake mix
All-natural granola bars
Pasta
Low-sodium tomato sauce
Canned pineapple in its own juice
Low-sodium soups
Low-sodium beans
If our grocery store has a collection bin, we’ll drop it off right there.
Have a wonderful weekend.

We too have this here the supermarket keeps a huge bag and ppl buy and put the things in the bag and the shop ppl take it to the charity place.
Have a great weekend too.
Just wanted to note that if folks miss the pickup today and their local grocer does not have a bin available, that most food banks have a way to donate dollars online so they can buy food for their clients. It is my understanding (from a very reliable source) that food banks can often “grow” donated dollars with grants and matching funds, making that money go even further.
In my area there is an astonishing rate of food insecurity and many of those most affected are children. It is good to have this reminder to help take care of those who for various reasons can’t take care of themselves. Thanks, bandits!
that’s a great point. cash donations to food banks are way more effective than food donations. thank you, dear deb.
Oops..missed it today. That’s a good list. I usually do items like those as well. Lovely quote.
