Hi. This is Marc’s aunt. All these sweet comments make me weepy. I have to say that, despite how unfair Bri’s devastating illness and death has been, her passing has been made so much gentler by all the loving people surrounding her.

  16. [...] would like to dedicate this recipe to Cher and to another wonderful food blogger Bri with Figs who passed away only 3 days ago of breast cancer at the age of 31. Rest in peace, dear [...]

Bee & Jai (if you’re back from your travels),

Interesting, Bri should exit on the last day of the lunar cycle at Diwali time…so this new phase of Marc’s & our family’s lives begins appropriately with the new moon. She was always tuned to the moon. I’m sure there’s some sort of astrological significance to the timing…

Today, Marc added his own tribute to his beloved Bri on her site: http://www.FigsWithBri.com We hope to post new recipes, comments on life and food from time-to-time. Bri had some ideas this past month, but not energy enough to dictate a post. I plan to follow through on those ideas.

Also am planning to add a tribute to sweet Brizy on my essential oils site about the incredibly tender, intimate, seva (selfless volunteer work) of care-taking a critically ill family member.

And to share some things we learned from Bri about her end-of-life crossing. Because she was SO communicative even to the end, she shared some profound insights in tiny snippets of conversation about what’s waiting on the other side.

We did a family home farewell, common in many countries, but unusual here in the States. Marc adorned Bri in her favorite dress with some precious photos including the one of them in his post. Our families really appreciated coming to say “good-bye” and Marc found it was helpful to have her form here for a day to process his own loss.

Tuesday, before Bri was cremated, family & friends added items symbolizing her life to the cremation casket:
~ Farmers market fruits – a persimmon, asian pear, Meyers lemon, and FIGS of course! And roots – carrots & garlic.
    - She LOVED the ocean, so we added a shell her mother collected, ocean washed pebbles, northern California kelp & seaweeds.
    - and many other things, I’ll write about in my tribute.

It was a fitting farewell to a woman who LOVED life, savoring every moment as she was able, to the end…with gratitude.

We will be doing a memorial in the next month open to all who may wish to join us in celebrating Briana’s life. Will send the details once they’re firmed up.

She was so brave in her fight and I didn’t expect this loss! I always hear cancer consumes faster than fire but still there was so much hope that I’m so shocked to hear this. My thoughts are with her family as they face this tremendous loss.

  31. Madhuram says:

That’s a terrible news Bee. Recently in an Al Pacino movie, I came across this dialogue. Time does not heal any wound, but it mercifully blunts the edges. Hope Bri’s family and friends find strength somehow to overcome this loss.

  32. Sheetal says:

I am so very sorry, my deepest condolences.

  33. Nirmala says:

I can’t believe this. Why should she die?

  34. sandy says:

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, Bri.

  35. DK says:

This was such an heart rending news…The only consolation to all of us probably was that Bri knew the love that was showered upon her endlessly by so many. She was happy though she leaves so many sad and devastated! But at the end what matters is – she must have been so happy and contented and on that strength probably she exited this word in her sleep….

    my prayers to the family.

  36. Smita says:

I am so sorry. Sincere condolences.

  37. Elizabeth says:

Dear Bri. When a lovely soul like hers leaves us and moves on I can’t help but think of a bird bursting free of its cage, winging its way into space, free of its earthly limitations. I will keep her in my prayers.

  38. Paz says:

    May she rest in peace.

    Paz

  39. I know that after the long fight Bri will rest in peace.

  40. Diana says:

I’ve thought of her often and checked her website for updates. I want this to not be true. It’s too harsh, too unfair. I was hoping that JUST ONCE, someone would beat this terrible disease.

  41. Abirami says:
