Dusk

In the distance: Wasatch Mountains, Utah

“Dusk, is just an illusion, because the sun is either above the horizon or below it. And that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are; there cannot be one without the other, yet they cannot exist at the same time. How would it feel, I remember wondering to be always together, yet forever apart?” – Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook)

Bee and Jai, inspired by all your In Season posts, I’m planning on starting a veggie patch this spring. I’m going to reread all those posts before I start. Would you consider doing a Growing Vegetables 101 post or adding a Gardening Resources Link to your Once Upon a Blog List? I’ve been trawling the web for resources and am completely lost with the information overload.

that’s a good idea. we’ll see what links we can add. where do you live? what USDA zone are you in? – b.

Thanks Bee. I live in Pittsburgh – zone 6.

zone 6 east coast is very different from the much drier, higher elevation zone 6 west coast. check out these sites for your area. talk to the staff at nurseries in your area. they are the best source of info. when you buy a sapling ask lots of questions on how to grow it. (we prefer local nurseries who know soil conditions, etc. very well to chain stores) check your local library for books on growing veggies in your area. and use organic fertilisers.

    our favourite site is this:

(they are in zone 6 too, but this is oregon, idaho, etc. very dry and different from your area. their tips on growing veggies are great. read it anyway.) – b.
