Sol Duc Falls

“Nothing in the world is more flexible and yielding than water. Yet when it attacks the firm and the strong, none can withstand it, because they have no way to change it. So the flexible overcome the adamant, the yielding overcome the forceful. Everyone knows this, but no one can do it.” – Lao Tzu

Sol Duc Falls is one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Olympic National Park, Washington. Located in a temperate rainforest, the falls are surrounded by hemlocks and douglas firs, some of which are three hundred years old.

This lush ecosystem, with its abundant rainfall, has a profusion of mosses and ferns.

Take a look HERE.

  30. stunning! we have been to sol duc a few times, even camped nearby one summer. The olympic national parks has the most bio diversity I have seen with rain forests, beaches, falls, ridges, snow peaked mountains. You choose some great spots to visit in NW. Did you end up at La Push? Thats one of my fav spots in the park.

we went to the coast briefly. not sure if it was called la push. we want to go to neah beach at the makah indian reservation next time. – b.

  44. I connect with these photographs in more ways than anyone will know. In 1995, I was a part of the Northern Spotted Owl Research team in Olympic National Park. We lived in the far, outreaching areas of the park, tracking owls and studying their behaviors. I’ve ventured out to many parts of the park that most humans will ever be able to reach, including areas in beautiful Sol Duc. Your outstanding photographs bring me back to a place that is so magical, so loved. Sigh. Thank you.
