**EDITED TO ADD: We have changed the settings. You do not need to be registered to vote for CLICK Reader’s Choice. Those who have registered already can continue voting as before, but those who haven’t can vote as guests. Registration is recommended, and it needs to be done just once to vote in all CLICK events.

Dear readers,

We would like to apologise to those of you who tried to vote for the CLICK Readers’ Choice award, and couldn’t.

We are not sure why the polling mechanism is so erratic. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We request you to send us an e-mail @ clickcapture At gmail DOT com with your three choices. We will make sure your votes are added to the tally.

It is puzzling for us to note that while we have thousands of hits during the days when voting is on, we get less than 100 readers who vote. The last time, we had less than sixty.

We have 77 contestants and six entries from judges. Eighty-three people have spent a lot of time and effort posting an entry.

Dear readers, we would like to know: Is it too much to expect many of you who follow the CLICK event to click on three checkboxes once a month?

Is it too much to expect atleast as many voters as participants?

As for our contestants and judges, some of you seem to think that it is not ‘right’ for you to vote for the Reader’s Choice Award. Quite to the contrary. Please cast your votes for your favourite entries. There is no discredit in voting for your own entry if you believe it is among the best.

We spend a lot of time and energy organising this event. The Reader’s Choice Award was meant to encourage readers to have an input.

We have some readers who participate through their entries, others who make it a point to vote, and a third group who do both. To all of you we are grateful – CLICK owes its success to you. Thank you for endorsing our efforts through your participation.

We would like to continue with the Readers’ Choice Award only if YOU, our readers, are interested in having one.

Should we continue the CLICK Readers’ Choice Award or scrap it altogether?

Please answer in the comments section with a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

If your answer is ‘Yes‘, show us that you mean it by casting your votes.

This award makes sense only if we have 100 or so voters. If we don’t have enough votes, and they are spread over a wide number of entries, it threatens to turn into a farce.

If the answer is ‘No‘, please state it in the comments section. If the majority answer is ‘No’, we will scrap the award from the next installment of CLICK.

Yes, while I participate very rarely in the contest, I never fail to vote. And I already voted for this round of Click too :-) .

Your Honor, hum par ye na-insafi nahi hone deejiye!

  2. cynic says:

    yes, and i voted.

  3. bhavani says:

yes, please keep it up. promise i will cast a vote every single time. :embarrass

  5. cynic says:

… having said that, my observations:

    1. Too many entries to choose from.
    2. Voting ain’t easy. You gotta scan thru the pictures vertically, pick the ones you like, remember the name of the person who sent it, click, come back and repeat for other two choices

    and my suggestions:

    1. Use the host prerogative (or judges’ prerogative) and select the pictures that qualify for readers choice – say a third of the entries
    2. Make it easy to vote: a check box near the picture itself (yeah, I know, code sucks and all that …) so people can check it and move right along
    3. Let anybody who comes by to the site vote. Why not? Can you use a cookie to prevent duplicate voting and ballot box stuffing?

of course, easy for me to say, i don’t have to deal with the code

hmmm… great suggestions. we’ll implement them. and yes, code sucks. – b.

Jai & Bee, I was about to write the same points as Cynic listed above.. I agree with all the points.. by the time I decide upon 3 entried n scroll down, I tend to forget the names.. wish there was a simpler interface for voting.

btw , I was able to vote for this time’s CLICK.. :D

  7. bhavani says:

  8. Dhivya says:

    Hi Bee n Jai

This event means a lot to many of us and every month it sure makes us work hard on our creativity. We sure want it B & J and we will ensure to do our part in this! I personally have benefitted in my photography skills…if ppl think it is so-so now, they should see some of my older posts. :o hno: My mail coming your way with the votes.

  9. siri_me says:

I am not able to vote.. so sending my mail with three choices to u guys! :)

    ~ Siri

  10. bhavani says:

    ok guys

we figured out why i am not able to vote. will vote soon. i must say, i have always been put off at the idea of going thru a registration, which i usually associate with ‘reading the fine print’. but registering at your site was really easy, literally took two seconds. thanks for keeping it simple.

  11. Simona says:

Yes, I voted yesterday and had no problems.

  12. rachel says:

tried a couple of times to vote yesterday..the page kept loading..am emailing you the votes…

  13. Vishakha says:

yes. I registered yesterday and voted for the first time. Felt I had lurked and lusted for long enough without doing my bit for community participation. I am seriously jealous of your photography skills and patience and thoughtfulness….

thanks for brightening up my work day

  14. Rachna says:

    yes yes yes

I have been the busiest ever over the past two months, but whenever I get the chance i come over to jugalbandi for the pics, the recipes, the writeups, the attitude, and CLICK…sorry i didnt vote over the past two months, i will now…

readers choice is nice becasue the pics that are the fav amongst readers are popular pics with new ideas or just pics that every1 likes….and thats makes them a winner even if they are different from the perfect pro picture that are judged as winners by the judges …so please do have it…love rach

  15. Chennette says:

    yes

I like the idea of a Reader’s Choice and hope it stays.

That being said, however, actually choosing is hard – so many choices, and the voting process (votes way under the pictures) was a bit difficult. If the contest continues to increase in submissions, perhaps we should just be voting for ONE photo – I can focus on finding just one that I want to vote for. I guess that may skew it if everyone votes for themselves, but I never vote for myself. I just decided even though it was allowed, I wouldn’t. If you can present a poll with the boxes next to the photos that would be great!

  16. Meera says:

Yes. I voted when I didn’t enter the click event. felt it’s not right to vote when i am participating. but if that’s ok, then i am sending my email now with 3 choices.

  17. Manisha says:

Keep the reader’s choice – it’s what makes Click different.

    And what cynic said.

  18. Manisha says:

Also wanted to say: look at your logs to see which days are your high traffic days. Release the Readers’ Choice poll on that day.

  19. Srivalli says:

guys..dont’ you dare remove this ok.:hammer:..if there are not enough votes, let us know..we will get our friends do them!..of course not proxy!… ..

those suggestions are good..but we love seeing all the entries in one place…though as cynic said we tend to forget..I write the names and give one overall two times before casting…afterall you get such beautiful pictures…it will be sad if readers don’t get a chance to see them…I always send in an entry and vote the very first day..you needn’t thank me..I love doing this…and I know how much code s****…great job guys..you have all our support!

Jai Hind Let it Bee!

  20. shammi says:

    and also what cynic said

  21. Happy Cook says:

Oh Yes. I Have been voting every time. Tried yesterday to vote but didn’t work as i write yesterday in the comment box. So i will send the mail instead if it is not working now.

  22. verO says:

    YES

… I hope you’ll continue with this great event.

    verO

  23. Miri says:

Last time I wasnt online for most of the month and didnt vote, this time I spent about 15 minutes looking throug all the entries, then scrolling up and down so that I dont forget the names of the blogs – which as cynic pointed out is quite tedious….but I dont mind doing it,because this is the only way I can contribute to this event, BUT, when it came to logging in, I seem to have forgotten my username – which seems weird since there is only one that I use….hence after several repeated attempts I gave up – total time taken – 35 minutes. I know, my mistake, and nothing to do with you – but might be some of the reasons which are putting off other voters – so just wanted to share this in case you were looking for pointers.

I will send you an email with my 3 choices.

And the shorter version of this post – YES

    Miri

  24. Smita says:

Yes – and I agree with Cynic. There were a lot of very close choices, especially this time. I like ALL of them – what-to-do!!

Regardless, thank you for opening it up to the hoi polloi. Please have the option available. Makes click unique.

  25. Maryann says:

I say, keep the voters choice but make it easier to do so. It took me about 15 minutes for the process. I was ready to give up. There are some problems with the site. I think if you fix these, people will vote :)

  26. mummyjaan says:

Yes, and I voted too. I would agree with several people above who have said it’s not easy.

I remember coming here on previous CLICK! events and then leaving – mainly because I couldn’t bother registering – so you’ve got one hurdle out of the way.

  27. jayshree says:

Yes please, this is the one thing which keeps it so intresting …

  28. vimmi says:

yes, do continue. Sorry, will vote regulary

  29. Padmaja says:

Oh Yes and I love clicking n participating and an absolute :nono: for scrapping it!!

  30. wine.scribbler says:

you should keep it. even if not everyone votes. it sets CLick apart from DMBLGIT for eg.

  31. Manasi says:

    YES Please continue with it!
Though I am no photographer, it is learning to me, that’s how I look at it! whtever gave u the idea of wanting to scrap it :fume:

  32. Nags says:

Yes (As if you expected anyone to say no!). My yes is cuz this is the only category I ever have the hope of winning.

I have registered but have been unable to vote, ever. When I login, I don’t see any options to vote. I refuse to believe I am that computer illiterate that I can’t understand the interface, so it has to be some other issue which I don’t know how to solve.

    Will try again this time.

  33. ramya says:

    De-lurking to say “Yes”.

  34. ramya says:

    Also, registered and voted.

  35. Meeta says:

Yes! I vote every time I am not a judge as I thought as judges we could not vote. But you clarified that here and I will vote for my fave – as soon as I have finished scoring!!

  36. TBC says:

Yes, coupled with what cynic has suggested.
Also, the registering part had been pissing me off! :frustrate :nono: :bruised:

    But life’s good again! :D

  37. Pooja says:

Got your feathers all ruffled huh?

    Yes it is, my dears.

  38. Cynthia says:

Yes and I am now going to email my votes. I was among those trying to vote before.

  39. Anita says:

Keep the reader’s choice with the suggestions that cynic makes. It was not easy to vote – plus it takes a good many clicks before I finally get to where the voting happens…click in, click to register, click to enter dashboard, then go to site, then click to the relevant post, then click to get to the voting page….too many clicks! (or maybe there is a faster less-click way that I need to be told about! – you know how web-savvy I am! Not.)

  40. Aparna says:

Yes. Thats a lot of yes!
Agree with cynic. Get the judges to pick out the voteworthy pics and then we could all vote.
