this photograph brought back memories of our garden in hubli. as a kindergartner i used to be fascinated by butterflies – i would catch butterflies in our garden and put them in a container with a perforated lid – my eyes would be glued the container for the next hour or so and i’d try to feed them random stuff like rice, leaves, flour etc before letting them go – my dad humoured me in my exploits. after a few times of conducting this exercise i realized that it was quite pointless and the butterflies were better off with the flowers.

Just in time. After watching ‘Planet in Peril’ y’day on CNN, seeing how species adapt to their environment, particularly the tree lizard in Madagaskar, this is quite apt.
