Vermouth is aromatized white wine. It’s a pantry staple.

In our home, it serves three purposes.

1. The perfect martini needs Vermouth.

2. We use it as a white wine substitute in cooking.

3. It is also an excellent substitute for Chinese rice wine in any dish.

vermouthpic.jpg

Sometimes, you don’t feel like opening a bottle of white wine just because you need a smidgen in your cooking. Besides, once you open a bottle of wine, it needs to be consumed quickly.

For cooking, a relatively inexpensive Dry Vermouth works fine.

Sweet Vermouth is red, Dry Vermouth is white. Both are made by flavouring white wine with herbs, flowers and seeds. (Vermouth, the Aromatized Wine)

We stock Dry Vermouth. As for its shelf life, it will probably outlast your grandkids. If you haven’t been drinking enough martinis, that is.

A shot of neat Dry Vermouth with some ice and a dash of lime is intense, and pretty good. As an aperitif, try the Extra Dry Vya.

We’ve been given two awards by our dear buddy Meeta.

The Thoughtful Blogger Award is for “those who answer blog comments, emails, and make their visitors feel at home on their blogs. For the people who take others’ feelings into consideration before speaking out and who are kind and courteous. Also for those bloggers who spend so much of their time helping other bloggers design, improve, and fix their sites. This award is for those generous bloggers who think of others.”

How could we not have received this honour? We, who thoughtfully mutilate every recipe we encounter. :bruised:

schmooze_award.gif

The Power of Schmooze Award is for bloggers who “effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello – all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship.”

It’s official. We’re Schmoozers, and proud of it.

Thank you for the double honour, dear Meeta.

We’d like to pass on these two awards to all those who sent us entries for our Postcards Series. We’re not sure what the rules of passing these awards on are, but all these bloggers richly deserve it.

When we started blogging, we sent out requests to some of our favourite bloggers, most of whom we barely knew, asking if they would like to contribute. They could easily have said, “Jugalbandi who?”
Some contacted us on their own.
All of them put in a lot of thought and effort to send us a postcard each from their countries. Rosie sent us postcards from two countries.

The postcards are HERE.

Paua Princess (The Paua Palace),
Cynthia (Tastes Like Home),
Rosie (What’s the recipe today Jim?),
Mathy (Virundhu),
Sarina (TriniGourmet),
Ellie (Kitchen Wench),
Susan (Food Blogga),
Sra (When My Soup Came Alive),
Anita (A Mad Tea Party),
Meeta (What’s for lunch, Honey?),
Trupti (The Spice Who Loved Me),
Shilpa (Flog and Rosbif)

and three more bloggers, whose postcards are in the mail. We don’t wish to ruin the surprise, but you know who you are.

Cynthia, our sweet friend, awarded us the
