FUNDRAISER for BRIANA RAFFLE PRIZES WHO'S BIDDING FOR WHAT

Dear Yahoo!

February 19, 2007 |

This is about your new portals that spring up like wee…. um, mushrooms everywhere.

We used your rival’s search engine to see how many people you have ticked off with your copyright violations, and it cheerfully yielded a gazillion hits.

Lawsuits left, right and centre have not deterred you from pursuing your modus operandi of lifting someone else’s content and claiming it as your own.

Like your Malayalam portal.

A lot of dedicated bloggers who would rather concentrate on their content, are now busy monitoring what your web trawlers are going to pilfer next.

Just in case your blokes in Sunnyvale are wondering what those curly-wurly characters on those links are, it’s Malayalam for “Yahoo!’s a thief, and its search engine sucks as well“. Thought you’d like to know that more people are reading about your copyright violations in Kerala than the whole of Mississippi and Oklahoma combined.

Yahoo!’s busy opening new language portals in India and we wonder when our content will be targeted next.

We understand you have a team of lawyers who have framed hoity-toity sounding terms of service for your users.

Like, thou shall not:

upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights (”Rights”) of any party;

So, a blogger who finds her content shamelessly plagiarised contacts you. And what do you say?

“We’ve taken off the offensive content, but we did you a favour, really, and it’s not our problem.”

Your automatons who craft responses to complaints need to be more original. Really.

So do those who come up with those empty cliches on your India portal.

Yahoo! respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask our users to do the same. Yahoo! may, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, terminate the accounts of users who infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

And there’s a pig flapping its wings furiously outside our window.

Much love,

Jai and Bee.

We all love Yahoo! and we’ll say it again on March 5.

    Huh! One more kid ranting.

Have you had any of your works plagiarized? Are you OK with it? If so, we’d like to hear what and why you have come to such a conclusion. Maybe all of us can learn something. Commercial use of already published work without acknowledgement and/or permission from the author(s) needs to be punished. — Jai
